How do I manage sales taxes / value added taxes (VAT) in Gazelle?

Gazelle makes it easy to customize your list of Sales & Use Taxes / VAT / and other Local Taxes. You can choose between Inclusive and Exclusive tax, and set tax filters for specific groups of clients.


Your settings for your taxes can be found at Settings > Taxes on both the web and mobile versions of the app.


How to change my tax label?

You can choose the general label for your taxes in Gazelle by following these steps:


Step 1: Click "What do you call tax?"

Step 2: Choose the label for your location.

Step 3: Save.


How to customize my list of taxes?

You can customize the Sales / VAT taxes in Gazelle by following these steps:


Step 1: Click "New" to add a tax or click on an already listed tax to edit it.

Step 2: Name your tax.

Step 3: Set the tax amount as a percentage.

Step 4: Choose if this is your default tax (Optional).


How do I set my prices to be Tax Exclusive/Inclusive?

You can manage the way your taxes are handled and displayed as either Tax Inclusive or Tax Exclusive.

This will affect your estimates, self-scheduler, appointments, and invoices. Click here for more information on how to set your taxes as inclusive or exclusive.

Be sure to adjust any prices in your Master Service List and the Service Cost Display on the Self Scheduler settings to reflect your choice.


How to Set a Client as Tax Exempt?

Step 1: Go to the record of the client you want to edit.
Step 2: Click on "Tax Handling"
Step 3: Select "Tax Exempt"
Step 4: Save




How to Setup a Client Tax Filters ?

If you service clients across different tax jurisdictions, you can set up filters to automatically apply the right taxes. Filters match clients based on their tags or location (state, city, zip code, etc.). When a new invoice or estimate is created, the matching filter's taxes will be used instead of the defaults above.

Step 1: Create a new tax filter or click to edit an existing one.
Step 2: Add filter criteria to define the group of clients you want this tax filter applied to. This will be for clients who currently match and any clients who match in the future. Note: If the criteria is more complicated, considering adding tags to specific clients that you can then filter for.
Step 3: Choose which taxes should be applied.

Step 4: Name your Filter (Optional)
Step 5: Save


How do I add taxes to invoice items?

Step 1: Create a new invoice or click to edit an existing one.
Step 2: Add/edit items on the invoice
Step 3: Select the "This item is taxable" option.

Step 4: Edit tax choices. Note: Your default taxes (or tax filter for that client) will be automatically added.
Step 5: Save
