Gazelle supports automated SMS reminders in international markets

It is important to note that providing automated SMS reminders in international markets is significantly more expensive than in the domestic US market. We are defraying some of the costs for international customers by absorbing a portion of the fees. However, there is too much variation in the international markets to absorb 100% of the fees.

What are we doing to minimize costs?

We have partnered with Twilio to provide the most reliable SMS automation to the broadest range of countries. Twilio is the world leader in SMS automation space.

How do International SMS phone numbers work?

In order to give your company a dedicated phone number we have to purchase a local phone number from Twilio to use on your behalf. The cost of this varies country to country.

What fees get passed on to my company?

Since Gazelle already absorbs the cost of SMS reminders in the US & Canada, we decided to also absorb some of the costs for our international customers. We are implementing a 4 tier structure: $5, $10, $15, and $20 per month. We want your fees to be predictable so all our SMS plans include unlimited messages. Because our costs will change month to month, we revisit these fees annually to assess whether we can maintain the current rate structure. You will receive plenty of notice of any rate changes and can always opt out at any time. Our goal is to keep our SMS fees as low as is reasonably possible.

What happens if a local phone number is not available

Twilio does not provide local numbers in all countries, but this is constantly changing as they build more international partnerships world wide. If your country is not on the list, just ask and we can check their progress. In some cases we have the option of purchasing a (US +1) phone number for you and paying the international SMS rates for your country code. However this has two downsides:

  1. Your customers might not appreciate receiving texts from an international number
  2. It usually costs Gazelle significantly more per message, so it might be cost prohibitive.

We are committed to providing you SMS automation and doing everything we can to make it affordable. Please contact us if you have questions.
