Phone carriers in most countries allow A2P SMS providers like Gazelle to purchase a local phone number on your behalf (A2P = 'Application-to-Person' SMS messages). If purchasing a local phone number is not possible (as is the case in the United States), Gazelle will assign you a toll-free number as an alternative.

In order to provide SMS reminders our team has to work with both the telecommunication regulatory bodies as well as the local carriers who sometimes charge fees for sending SMS messages to numbers on their network. We use 3rd party providers to manage all of the regulatory requirements for purchasing, verifying, and authenticating the local numbers and we pass these fees onto our customers.
